A pond UV clarifier helps control green water by exposing free-floating algae to UV-C light, allowing the pond filter to remove it more effectively.
Rockworld supplies UV clarifiers for ornamental ponds, fish ponds and koi ponds. Our range includes OASE and Pontec units for small garden ponds through to larger, heavily stocked koi and swimming-pond installations.
Pond water is pumped through the UV clarifier, where it passes around a quartz sleeve containing a UV-C lamp. The UV-C exposure causes microscopic suspended algae to clump together. These larger particles can then be captured by the pond’s mechanical filtration system.
A UV clarifier is particularly useful for controlling the suspended algae that make pond water appear green. It does not physically remove dirt from the pond and should be used as part of a correctly sized pond filtration system.
The required UV output depends on more than pond volume alone. Consider:
Koi ponds, heavily stocked ponds and ponds exposed to strong sunlight will generally require more UV-C capacity than lightly stocked ornamental ponds of the same volume.
Water must remain inside the UV clarifier long enough to receive effective UV-C exposure. Excessive flow can reduce performance, while an incorrectly matched pump may not circulate the pond adequately. Always check the recommended maximum flow rate and pond capacity for the individual model.
The UV clarifier should be installed in the correct position within the filtration system. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions concerning mounting position, water flow and electrical safety.
UV-C lamp output gradually declines with use even when the lamp still appears illuminated. Replace the lamp at the manufacturer’s recommended interval and regularly inspect and clean the quartz sleeve. Limescale or dirt on the sleeve can substantially reduce the amount of UV-C reaching the water.
Important: UV-C radiation is harmful to eyes and skin. Never operate or view a UV-C lamp outside its correctly assembled housing.
